"We’ve Reached Peak Wellness. Most of It Is Nonsense. Here's what actually works."
Brad Stulberg helps us understand that there are six dimensions of our health, and how the low-cost basics are far more effective than the flashy and expensive. The summary from his article is below, either paraphrased or in excerpts. You can read it whole here.
1- The Physical
Move your body every day, sometimes very hard, try to do at least some of it outside.
Also, ignore diets and supplements and, instead, cut out processed foods.
2- The Emotional
The “beautiful mess effect”: Even though sharing your feelings may seem like a weakness to you, to others it seems courageous and builds trust and connection.
3- The Cognitive
Passion (whether for a hobby or vocation, and possibly in relationships) takes time to emerge. “This is interesting” gets us a lot further than “this is perfect.” And then be present.
4- The Social
The critical importance of developing meaningful relationships.
5- The Spiritual
Cultivate purpose and awe.
6- The Environmental
Our environment matters, both our personal space and our common home, the Earth.
